Just wanted to drop a compliment on the Caina "I, Mountain" release. Great music, great packaging, a real nice job all around. Was waiting for it since I first got the email, and am happy someone put a concious effort to bring together Lovecraft and some real dark metal. It comes off as a real labor of love. Can't wait for the rest, keep it up!

CAINA - "I, Mountain"  - First in series

Webcaina_I_mountain

"I, Mountain" from Englands CAINA is a massive 21 minute instrumental piece that is based on the story "At the Mountains of Madness" and much like the story itself it is filled with doom and despair with little bits of hope sprinkled about. Kind of like Jeff Wayne's 'War of the Worlds' for the Nachtmystium generation. SOLD OUT! Please try one of these stores/distros: THE END RECORDS , aQuarius Records , ANTHEM RECORDS .

LVTHN - "Sentinel Hill" - Third in Series

LVTHN_YSCover

Summoned by the foul incantations echoing along the corridors of God is Myth's lair, Gaendaal's LVTHN has risen once more from the abyssal depths to haunt the marsh-rimmed streets of unhallowed Dunwich. Noisome abominations lurk in cellars and wretched degenerates turn every thought to the venomous rites required to bring their unnameable master from...elsewhere. Inhuman chants croak damply from the old Whateley place and a light...an unearthly light shines on Sentinel Hill! Click HERE  for an mp3 sample! SOLD OUT!

Sapthuran - "The Beast in the Cave" - Fourth in Series

Web_Sapthuran_Beast

Sapthuran's "The Beast in the Cave" is based upon Lovecraft's short story of the same title which tells a story of a tourist who loses his way within the vast caverns of Mammoth Cave. His torch eventually burns out and he is left in absolute darkness. He begins to hear footsteps of some form of large beast approaching him and, after using a stone to slay the beast when it draws near to him, a rescuing party arrives and shines a light upon the beast and realizes that it was once a human being whose appearance was changed drastically as a result of living inside the cave for many, many years. Through three tracks of hollow and haunting Black Metal, Patrick Hall of Sapthuran tells the tale through the eyes of the beast rather than the tourist as it is in the original text. In addition to this, he pays homage his homeland in Kentucky, the state in which the setting of the story takes place, and to the wonder and mystery of the worlds beneath our feet and the immense powers of Nature which form them. All artwork for this release consists of photographs of Mammoth Cave and its surrounding forests taken by Patrick Hall. Click HERE  for an mp3 sample. SOLD OUT!

Smohalla - "Nova Persei" - Fifth in Series

nova_peresei_THUMB

The concept of "Nova Persei" is based upon the stellar war that is implied in Lovecraft's "Beyond the Wall of Sleep". In the novel, a simple peasant becomes mad because of some strange dreams. In fact, Jack Slater is an old spirit living sometimes in the flesh of this man, and at the same time he's fighting in the Universe with Algol, the demon star. At the end of the novel, reads the following text:
"On February 22, 1901, a marvelous new star was discovered by Doctor Anderson of Edinburgh, not very far from Algol. No star had been visible at that point before. Within twenty-four hours the stranger had become so bright that it outshone Capella. In a week or two it had visibly faded, and in the course of a few months it was hardly discernible with the naked eye."

So with the bands own words, they have developed this cosmic fight which is suggested in the novel. There are six points (tracks):

1.) Aux Premieres Eternités = At the First Eternity
This is the awakening (not the birth, it always existed) and trip of Slaade (=soon Nova Persei), hero of our concept ep. This tells how this spirit grows, to travel across the Universe and how some jealous entity starts a coalition against him.

2.) Les yeux du Temps = Eyes of the Time
This tellsof how Slaade will soon fall. He tries to became more and more brillant, to develop his knowledge and powers. He's not into vanity, but his courage and will to discover is too great for jealous stars. This song is only a premonition of what will be: his fall. The lyrics are telling of "eyes of the time are yet crying for you"..

3.) Errances = Wanders
The last but most beautiful trips of Slaade. He's now one of the most creative entities of our space dimension. He can touch the hands of the ancient, he can caress the onyx of the higher places...

4.) Nova Persei
Slaade is now Nova Persei, one of the most brillant stars in the galaxy. He's rising again and again, but Algol the demon star is preparing a war... this star is in fact a trinity, 3 stars welded to kill Nova Persei, a mixture of burning magma, frozen ices and dark intentions.

5.) Algol
This is a soundscape of this fight between Algol and Nova Persei. Oniric, spatial, this struggle is a cosmic mayhem that changes this galaxy into a real abstract explosion. Try to imagine a bending Universe becoming the most chaotic experience...

6.) Extinction
Instrumental vision of his eternal fall. The text at the end is in bosniac, it's only a translation of "On February 22, 1901, a marvelous new star was discovered by Doctor Anderson of Edinburgh, not very far from Algol. No star had been visible at that point before. Within twenty-four hours the stranger had become so bright that it outshone Capella. In a week or two it had visibly faded, and in the course of a few months it was hardly discernible with the naked eye."
Now Slaade/Nova Persei is dead...for this time, cause it will never die, reincarnation in other times/dimensions will surely be.

Frostmoon Eclipse - "I Am Providence" - Sixth in Series

Frostmoon Eclipse - I am Providence

For this particular installment we chose to let Frostmoon Eclipse guitarist Claudio express in his own words the inspiration for which these fantastic songs took shape: "We are all great fans of Lovecraft stories in the band, so we recorded three tracks that, in our opinion, should be played while reading. The first is about "In the Vault" (which is our singer's favorite), while the music of the second was perfect to picture in our mind "The Thing on the Doorstep". The last one was simply inspired by Lovecraft's death, and closes our work as an epitaph."~ Claudio Alcara   Click HERE for an mp3 sample.  Sold Out.

Brown Jenkins - "Welcome the Bitterness"  - Seventh in Series

Brown Jenkins - Welcome the Bitterness

Well you knew it had to happen sooner or later right? We are so damn proud to have Brown Jenkins be a part of this ongoing tribute to Lovecraft. Taking inspiration from "The Outsider"  the music is a slight diversion from typical Brown Jenkins but nevertheless still as creepy and buzzing as ever. Umesh, mainman behind Jenkins is a man of few words and the music here definately does the talking, but we wanted to take the opprotunity to quote a line from the story that perhaps sums this release up quite nicely. "I know not where I was born, save that the castle was infinately old and infinately horrible, full of dark passages and high ceilings where the eye could only find cobwebs and shadows."    Click HERE  for an mp3 sample. Out on Halloween 2008!

In other Lovecraft related news, our good friends at Dark Music Domain are selling some extremely unique and rare Cthulhu statues.

Where others have not, artist Corinne Crowe has succeeded in remaining faithful to H.P. Lovecraft's description of the statue in The Call of Cthulhu. Measuring 7.5 inches x 3 inches x 5 inches, each statue is cast from the artist's own molds with high-quality resin and weighs approximately 2 pounds. The artist's particular casting process results in swirls and striations of color, as well as the gold element, that vary from piece to piece. Therefore, each statue is truly unique! The standard color scheme for "Cthulhu" is green and black with gold. However, there has been some experimentation with other color schemes, producing "deviant" colorations. This edition of "Cthulhu" is limited to only 500 statues. Each statue is individually numbered and signed by the artist underneath the base, and comes with a signed, numbered certificate of authenticity. Dark Music Domain (USA) is currently the only retail source for Corinne Crowe's "Cthulhu," aside from the artist herself. Click HERE  for more info.
